cfb_website_about_301x221px4CrossFit Birkenhead was started in 2009 by head coach and affiliate owner, Paul Davies, and has been going strong ever since! We were the fourth CrossFit gym to open in NZ (there are now 120+) so we really know our stuff.

We pride ourselves on providing a friendly, non-intimidating and safe environment for our members to work out in. We’re lucky enough to have an awesome bunch of members so our gym has a real community feeling… we all have a lot of fun too! Our coaches are all qualified and experienced and will help you achieve your fitness goals. Find out more about our coaches below…

“Crossfit is one of the most rewarding challenges you’ll get to achieve, and the best bit is you can do it every week – with a new challenge and a new personal best.”
LIAM MCILVEEN • CROSSFIT BIRKENHEAD MEMBER
“I have been a member at CrossFit Birkenhead since it opened in 2009 and prior to that, CrossFit Birkenhead coach Paul Davies had been training me using CrossFit methods in one-on-one sessions. CrossFit workouts are unparallel to any other workouts in the New Zealand fitness industry today and it is not a new fad that is going to disappear anytime soon. In a CrossFit class members are always educated on best practise and technique is always taught and monitored. As a physician, I have been impressed by Paul’s ability to scale workouts to appropriately suit individual needs. Each CrossFit workout is always different and your body and mind is continually challenged. I have referred my own family and friends to Paul and many of them are now also members of CrossFit Birkenhead.”
JOHN MAYHEW • WARRIORS DOCTOR + EX ALL BLACKS DOCTOR + CROSSFIT BIRKENHEAD MEMBER
“The sessions are short and effective, alongside friendly and like-minded people and great instructors! Before I did CrossFit I could not do press ups, push ups or run. I can do all of these and have since completed two half marathons… CrossFit has been life changing for me.”
JANET MARSHALL • CROSSFIT BIRKENHEAD MEMBER
“It’s not a muscle head gym but a really friendly motivating environment with really positive people. I am now early 40s and can beat my kids at handstands. At our gym egos are left at the door, if they actually exist. You don’t have to be fit, I struggled with body weight squats when I started. Have no regrets, give it a go!”
MATT PIGGIN • CROSSFIT BIRKENHEAD MEMBER + INTERN COACH
“No one notices when you screw something up; but somehow everyone notices when you achieve something you haven’t managed before. Plus it’s full of amazing friends that could all save themselves (and then me!) should we all happen to find ourselves hanging from a cliff by our fingertips.”
TESSA GALVIN • CROSSFIT BIRKENHEAD MEMBER
“CFB (CrossFit Birkenhead) is the spice of life! Our days are based on routines, coming to our gym adds variety and as a team we encourage each other to new challenges!”
NINA PETTERSSON-FOX • CROSSFIT BIRKENHEAD MEMBER
“I injured my knee fairly seriously mid-2015 (not during CrossFit) resulting in significant muscle loss in my injured leg. Paul supported me to keep training (one legged) while my knee was out of action. I was able to stay fit and strong in the rest of my body by adapting any workout to the movements I could still do. Following knee surgery, scaled/adapted Crossfit was my primary rehabilitation. Nine or so months later the muscle is almost completely regained and I am back to squatting the same weights as before my injury.”
MERRYN TAWHAI • CROSSFIT BIRKENHEAD MEMBER
